Art for Recovery Fundraising Event Raises Awareness for Addiction
Transforming Youth Recovery presented their fourth annual fundraising event, Art for Recovery, on September 7th at the Whitney Peak Hotel in downtown Reno. Funds raised will be used to benefit Transforming Youth Recovery’s mission of investing in the future of youth and families by bringing research, solution-based programs and resources to substance use disorders.
“We cannot express enough the amount of gratitude we feel for the generosity we experienced at this year’s Art for Recovery. It’s through the ongoing support and contributions of this community that we are able to continue addressing the core issues behind addiction and, ultimately, save lives.” – Stacie Mathewson, founder of Transforming Youth Recovery and Art for Recovery
Art for Recovery aims to raise awareness, bring healing to all who are touched by substance use disorders, and destigmatize the disease of addiction. The event featured artwork by 18 local and renowned artists around the theme “What Family and Recovery Means to Me” as well as guest speakers David B. Walker, Nevada Museum of Art Executive Director and CEO; Tara Conner, recovery advocate, motivational speaker, actress and Miss USA 2006; and Daniel Fred, UNR professor and recovery advocate. The event also featured a live art demonstration, a live and silent auction and a special song performance by students of Innovations High School.
